Gilles Binchois (jan 1, 1400 – jan 1, 1460)
Description:
Prolific song-writer and master of fauxbourdon. Composed in the court of Phillip the Good, Duke of Burgundy. Wrote more than 60 chansons, and elevated the Ballade genre.
Pieces: Ballade "Deuil angoiseux", based on a partisan French text by poet Christine de Pisan, written about the 100 years war but ironically composed in a contenance angloise style.
