Prolific song-writer and master of fauxbourdon.
Composed motets, secular songs in all the forme fixes, mases. Used his ballade "Se la face ay pale" as a cantus firmus for is best-known Mass. Du Fay was a pioneer in basing sacred music on secular tenors, consecrating the secular. Famous for chant paraphrase, where he embellished a chant in an extremely decorative way.
