Lynching Blacks (jan 1, 1890 – jan 1, 1909)
Description:
African response took two forms:
Booker T. Washington: focus on building economic power for now and let go of fighting for social and political equality until economic power is reached.
W E B Du Bois: Criticized Washington. Argued that blacks should advocate for social and political equality right away. His view won the day.
