Initially persuaded by Paley.Later developed darwinian evolution by drawing on Lyell (geology and old earth), Malthus (population economics), and farmers (natural selection). Challenged the historicity of Christianity.
Resulted in conflict thesis: Science is opposed and always superior to theology.
