Francois Magendie (jan 1, 1783 – jan 1, 1855)
Description:
-Discovered that dorsal and ventral spinal roots control sensation and motor movement independently from, but at the same time as Sir Charles Bell
------Discovered it second, but more accurate
------Together, known as the Bell-Magendie Law
-"...as for having established that these roots have distinct properties, distinct functions, that the anterior ones control movement, and posterior ones sensation, this discovery belongs to me." (rivalry)
-Concluded that the posterior root controls sensation and the anterior root control motor response
-Cut the posterior cords of the spine --> limb lost sensibility, but not movement
-Cut the anterior cords of the spine --> limb became completely immobile
