Turnpike and Bridge Authority and served as its Chairman for three four-year terms during which time he was largely responsible for legislation authorizing the financing and construction of the Newport Bridge which was opened to traffic in June 1969. He was campaign manager for John Chafee's successful run for Governor in 1962 and again in 1964.
