John Calvin Sw (jan 1, 1509 – jan 1, 1564)
Description:
French Reformer. Protestant by 1533 for sure (he fled persecution prompted by Francis I). Wound up living in Geneva, Switzerland. Wrote The Institutes in Switzerland (final edition completed in 1559/60), and is the most important systematizer of Protestant theology in his day.
Believed that government had to conform to God's Law; this led to revolutions leading to the modern world.
