Babylonian Empire (jan 1, 1894 BC – jan 1, 1595 BC)
Description:
The Babylonian empire rose to power under the leadership of King Hammurabi in 1792 bce. Babylon was the empire’s capital and Marduk was the patron deity. Hammurabi expanded the empire’s territory along the Euphrates river in the south and conquered the lands of the Assyrians in the north. This enabled him to take control of the entire Mesopotamia.
