Description:
Mary was the daughter of Charles the Bold and granddaughter of Philip I. She spent much of her time defending her birthright and so married the Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I to legitimize her claims to her land. When she died in a riding accident at age 25, Maximilian took over her lands and started a longstanding French-Habsburg rivalry.Added to timeline:
