Military Service: He served as an ensign in the Navy Reserve on active duty in transport service from 1917 to 1919, and on inactive duty until 1923; Inspector of construction for the Navy from 1942 to 1947.
Occupation: Electrical Contractor (1915 - 1958)
Other Offices: South Kingstown Town Council (1924 - 1930), the last two years as its President. Senator (1936 - 1940).
Affiliations: He was organizer and first commander of Washington County Post 916, VFW, from 1922 to 1923, and was the VFW State Department Vice Commander in 1928. Chairman of the Republican Town Committee from 1932 to 1936. He was a South Kingstown member of the Republican State Central Committee from 1948 to 1952. He was a past president of the Animal Rescue League of Southern Rhode Island. He was a past president of the South County Kennel Club. He was an early member of the Veterans Motor Car Club of America, and a past president of the Rolling Rhodies Antique Auto Car Club of Rhode Island. He was an active member of the Antique Auto Club of America. He was on the board of directors and a past president of the Pettaquamscutt Historical Society.
He was a former member of the South Kingstown Historical Zoning Commission. He was a vice chairman of the South Kingstown South Shore Water Commission. He was author of several volumes of local history titled, A Stroll Through Memory Lane. He was an honorary member of the South Kingstown Rotary Club, and the South Kingstown Chamber of Commerce.
Honors and Awards: On August 3, 1982, the Washington County Government Center was dedicated in the name of Oliver H. Stedman.
Other Information: He was author of several volumes of local history titled, A Stroll Through Memory Lane.
