Siege on Vicksburg (may 18, 1863 – jul 4, 1863)

Description:

The siege on Vicksburg started because the Union wanted control of the Mississippi river, If they could capture Vicksburg then the Confederacy would be split in half. When the battle started the Union had about 77 thousand soldiers while the Confederates had about 33 thousand. In the end the Confederates surrendered and the Union had just split the Confederacy in half.
