- Failure of Cripps mission - British not ready to agree on demands
- Public discontent over wartime repression by the government
- a feeling of British collapse - people started withdrawing money from banks
- Indian leaders made people ready if Japan conquer India
- racial discrimination of Indian soldiers in the South-East war with japan
- Very aggressive movement with participation from youth, women, workers, peasants, government officials
Communists - supporting UK for Russia
Muslim league - opposed
Hindu Mahasabha - boycotted
- Public rampage - attacking government symbols - police station, railways, public offices
- Underground activity
