The Battle of Antietam, also known as the Battle of Sharpsburg, occurred, when general Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia decided to invade into Maryland where they would battle against general George B. McClellan. There was no clear winner and the battle left thousands dead, but the Union declared it a victory due to driving the Confederates out of Maryland.Added By Spencer
