Between the 18th of May to July the 4th of 1863, Union general Ulysses S. Grant sieged the important Confederate city of Vicksburg for 47 days. Once Vicksburg fell to the Union, the Confederacy no longer controlled the Mississippi River, splitting it in half.Added By: Spencer
