Great Famine (Ireland) (jan 1, 1845 – dec 30, 1852)
Description:
Due to a potato blight that swept Europe, Ireland, a nation that heavily relied on the crop, went into a large scale famine. The famine had a huge effect on the population and nation as a whole. Many died from starvation, and many more emigrated out of the country. The famine also further damaged relations between the Irish and the British Crown, and was an important event in support of Irish nationalism.
