Knight (1869-1872), and salesman for Butts & Mason (1872-1874), when he entered the firm of Mason, Chapin & Co. which was succeeded in 1896 by the firm Arnold, Peck & Co. which were extensive importers, jobbers, and commission merchants in chemicals, drugs and dye-stuffs.

He served as vice president of the National Hope Bank, and of the Warren Institution for Savings; a trustee of the Warren Trust Company, and a member of the Union Club and the Rhode Island Yacht Club.
