Nobody had done this before due to the Arcane Beasts, but ever since the Duskchase drove them away the forest remained uninhabited as the Silverbloods rarely expanded their numbers, and more rarely still moved their households. After the silverbloods left, no-one dared tread into their lands, fearful of curses. (Bu this point, magic had become too diluted, and knowledge had been lost during several inner conflicts, as well as poor or outright vicious rulerships).
