Homestead Act signed into law (may 20, 1862 – may 20, 1862)

Description:

This act signed into law by President Abraham Lincoln in 1862. This act encourages people to migrate westward by allowing up to 160 acres of public land to settlers in exchange for a small fee and five years of living and working on this newly provided land.
