First Generation (jan 31, 1940 – jan 11, 1956)

Description:

The first generation is known to be in the timeline of 1940 to 1956, computers were first known as vacuum tubes.

• The first “computers” ever made usually needed entire rooms to be able to operate properly and were very pricey as they used vacuum tubes for circuity and magnetic drums for the computer memory.
• The machines made in this time used and generated a lot of heat which usually consumed large amounts of energy. This part of them made it very hard to maintain for a long time and many of them usually broke down.
• The computers in this time operated and relied on the most basic language known as ‘cryptic binary machine language’, which is now considered one of the lowest level programming languages understood by computers.
