This African American man that has forever etched his name in history, devoted his life to fight for the rights of his own people, and their African heritage. In this statement, David J. Garrow (9) describes just how significant Martin Luther King 's life was, "Martin Luther King, Jr. became the predominant leader in the Civil Rights Movement to end racial segregation and discrimination in America during the 1950s and 1960s and a leading spokesperson for nonviolent methods of achieving social change," (Garrow 1). Garrow is simply summarizing the vast amount of progress towards equality that Martin Luther King achieved.
