Redfern Speech (dec 10, 1992 – dec 10, 1992)

Description:

The Redfern Speech was given by Prime Minister Paul Keating at the official opening of the United Nations International Year of the World's Indigenous Peoples in Redfern Park, New South Wales. He made a speech which influenced the relationship between Australian state and the original Indigenous Australians. The speech was the first time a prime minister spoke about the dispossession, violence and prejudice perpetrated against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
