Sri Lankan Immigration (jul 8, 1983 – apr 20, 1991)

Around 1983 Sri Lankan Tamils started immigrating to Canada due to the war that was happening in Sri Lanka. So they all started to move to different countries, one of the more popular ones being Canada. They used many methods to get to Canada some being illegal. By 1983 there were around 150 tamil people living in Canada, but a few years later the tamil community became one of the largest growing communities in Canada. Canada had one of the largest Sri Lankan diaspora in the world and is steadily growing. Finally by 1991 the growth got massive reaching its peak and being the 5th biggest source country of immigrants to Canada.
