Cholera Outbreak (jan 22, 1817 – sep 21, 1975)

Description:

Cholera originated in the Ganges River found in India and Bangladesh. It was contracted on festival times to the high amount of travelers who then carried it back with them to other parts of Asia. In March of 1820 it was found in parts of China and in 1822 Japan had signs of it striking there. The disease disappeared and reappeared at different intervals of time but when it struck it hit hard and devastated many cities populations. The main cause of it spreading so far has been accredited to the British Army and Navy, as British troops would carry it with them to places such as Afghanistan and Nepal. The Navy along with merchant ships are thought to have brought the disease to China and Japan. Between this length of time it had popped up seven times and has been estimated to have killed 40 million people. Cholera can strike you with no symptoms or mild ones or even affect you with extremely severe symptoms, it causes you to start sweating profusely, vomiting, watery diarrhea, and leg cramps. It kills you by causing you to become dehydrated and puts you into a state of shock with when left untreated kills in a few hours.
