Vicksburg (may 18, 1863 – jul 4, 1863)
Description:
The strong point of the confederacy. Ulysses Grant sent his men to attack the city several times but failed each time. Finally the Union sent miners to plant explosives in tunnels around the city. The union forces pushed the Confederacy until the 29000 men in the city could not hold any longer. This Union victory split the confederacy in half.Added to timeline:
