Second Cholera Pandemic (jan 1, 1829 – jan 1, 1851)

Where: Asia, Europe, North America
Disease: Cholera
Cause: Vibrio cholerae bacteria
Origin: It is believed that the first pandemic lingered in the Philippines and found its way back to India. First cases were again in the Ganges Delta.
Transmission: Consumption of fecal contaminated water due to poor sanitation.
Symptoms:
-Profuse diarrhea
-Vomiting of clear liquid
Death toll: Over 100,000
End: Unknown. However, the invention of the intravenous (IV) drip may have helped slow progression.
