The Wars of Religion (jan 1, 1562 – jul 1, 1598)

Description:

Many wars were fought mainly due to religious matters. A variety of groups with varying goals were involved in the conflict. Spain wanted to defeat Protestantism along with Islam's influence. French Calvinists wanted to defeat Huguenots. The Holy Roman Empire wanted to restore Catholicism in Germany. There was a Civil war between Anglicans and Puritans. There were many stages to the Wars of Religion, the most important being the Thirty Years' War in which was a conflict between Catholics and Protestants.
