Kamakura Period (jan 1, 1192 – jan 1, 1333)
Description:
After Yoritomo's death there was a power struggle between the Kamakura Bakufu and the Imperial court Kyoto resulting in the Kamakura defeated the Imperial army in Kyoto.
Buddhism begins to rise in Japan with the Zen sect becoming popular with the Samurai. Other Buddhist sects like the Lotus Sutra which was founded in 1253 by Nichiren and Pure Land Buddhism became more popular.
Hojo Masoko also created a refuge for woman who were in need of help getting away from being abused or other reasons.
