War between the United States and Mexico The United States won, they got Mexican Territory.2 main causes for the war. The annexation of Texas and a disputed border between where Texas actually ended.
The acquired Southwestern territories would later set up conflict over whether or not to allow slavery in the new territories. Wilmot Proviso was proposed during the war.
