German and Irish Immigration (jan 1, 1820 – jan 1, 1840)
Description:
Around 90% of immigrants from this time period were English, German or Irish, among these Irish were the largest. The potato famine had an effect on this. The Irish were targets of xenophobic prejudice. They assimilated in both urban and rural areas. Germans were the second largest group. Both groups overcame prejudice.
