Columbian Exchange (oct 12, 1492 – jan 1, 1800)

Description:

The Columbian Exchange refers to the spread of plants, disease, technology, animals, and culture from Europe and Africa to the Americas that followed after the initial voyage of Columbus in 1492. The introduction of these factors resulted in the colonization of the "New World," decimation of Native American populations, and widespread ecosystem change. Diseases, such as smallpox, the flu, and measles, brought by settlers were extremely deadly for Native populations, as they did not have any type of immunity to them. The fall of many great ancient civilizations, like the Aztec, was caused by these diseases. The animals and plants introduced into the land flourished under new conditions and helped much of the Americas emerge as agricultural societies, leading to the need for slavery. The immense change that came through the Columbian Exchange shaped the future of not only the Americas, but the world.
