Vietnam War (dec 1, 1955 – dec 1, 1975)
Description:
The Vietnam War was the first war that the US fought without the support of the country. As the Vietnam War rolled around, the US had started to establish their imperialistic view on global relations, so they thought it was just to involve themselves and ‘defeat communism’. Involvement in the war was solely based on the anti-communist ideals that prevailed from the Cold War. In the long run, the war basically accomplished nothing as there was not a clear ‘winner’. However, it did spark many activist movements and the rise of the Beat Generation and Counterculture which was intensified by the Vietnam War.
