Siege of Saracuse (jan 1, 213 BC – jan 1, 212 BC)

Description:

The Siege of Syracuse took place when the Roman Republic successfully stormed the Hellenistic city of Syracuse. This was a successful siege that ended with the Romans being able to obtain full control of Sicily. This was a conflict during the Second Punic War as the Romans were looking to have full control over Sicily to have better access to Carthage across the Mediteranian. Syracuse defended for many months and the Romans were even forced to bring their own unique devices and inventions to accomplish this siege, but were to little avail as there was a stalemate for a long time as the Romans couldn't breach the walls but also couldnt keep their line tight enough to stop supplies from entering the city.
