Description:
Where: EuropeDisease: Bubonic Plague
Cause: Yerinsia pestis bacteria
Transmission: Carried on fleas that are carried by rodents such as rats. Most likely reached Europe via the Silk Road or by ship.
Symptoms:
-Swollen lymph nodes (buboes)
-Can spread to bloodstream and lungs to cause other forms of plague
-If bloodstream is infected, death often comes on the same day symptoms first appear
-If lungs become infected, death can come in as little as one day
Death toll: Estimated 75-200 million across Eurasia
End: Burned itself out by killing its carriers. Another outbreak won't happen unless infected fleas from Asia are reintroduced, repeating the process.
