Arete of Cyrene (sep 1, 40 BC – apr 1, 34 BC)

Description:

An educated woman and philospoher, Arete of Cyrene was one of the few educated women in ancient Greece to have a career in philosophy. She focused most of her time teaching natural and moral philosophy various schools in Attica. She wrote over 40 books and had over 100 pupils at the time of her death. She was the daughter of Aristippus, head of the Cyrenaic school in Northeastern Libya.
