Maurice Duplessis and the
Great Darkness [1944-1959] (jan 1, 1944 – oct 19, 1955)
Description:
Maurice Duplessis was the nationalistic, corrupt premier of Quebec who was cruel and harsh. The time during which he was in power was nicknamed the "Great Darkness" because He put Quebec first and believed he did everything in Quebec's best interests. One of Duplessis' worst cases of corruption was the "Duplessis Orphans". He purposely identified orphans as mentally ill so they would be moved from the provincial funded orphanages to federally funded insane asylums.
