Mercantilism (jan 1, 1500 – jan 1, 1700)

Description:

During the 16th to the end of the 18th century, most of Europe adopted the economic policy of mercantilism. “Trade, colonies, and the accumulation of wealth as a foundation for a country’s military and political strength.”, that’s how they viewed it. Mercantilism meant that the government should regulate both trade and production, so that the country may become self-sufficient. Countries were to get their raw materials from their colonies so that they may benefit. Mercantilism “styled” colonies were good because they could increase the wealth of the parent country. Mercantilism motivated the endeavors of the Spanish and French and from there, it traveled to the English after their Civil War.
