Description:

Anti-communism portrayed in American society through patriotism, religious conviction, and complete faith in capitalism. Helps evangelicalism make a comeback. Society urged conformity. Women forced back into the homestead. Black Americans were forced back into pre-war racial constructs. "Lavender scare" fueled homophobia and oppressed gay Americans.

McCarthy was a WI Republican who fear mongered and helped stoke the fear of communism throughout the United States. Encourages Red Scare and uses movement to secure his popularity. Witch-hunted people based on suspected communist sympathies. McCarthy justifies radical anti-liberalism w examples of corruption on the federal level w examples of Hiss/Rosenbergs, even if democratic politicians were overtly anti-communist. McCarthy becomes chairman of SPSI under Eisenhower. By 1954 widely condemned by almost all colleagues for his actions.
