Great Depression (aug 1, 1929 – jan 1, 1941)

Description:

Started by overvalued stocks. Caused a stock market crash in 1929, which then led to a Panic where everybody was trying to get their money out of the banks. Caused a bunch of banks to close and people to lose their money. About 25% unemployment. Government refused to intervene, so people literally starved to death. Many people lost their homes and ended up squatting in "Hoovervilles" (slums). Not to mention, the dust bowl harmed farming, worsening starvation.
