Red River War (jul 1, 1874 – jul 1, 1875)

Description:

Comanche very powerful in the plains areas. Gov called them to peace talks in 1867. Both parties misunderstood the outcome. The Comanche thought they were being given land to hunt buffalo, while the US thought the Comanche had agreed to move to a reservation. Used the reservation as a base while continuing to trade and raid elsewhere in the TX area, led by Quanah Parker. In response, the US declared all natives not a reservation hostile. Comanche refused to move, so the US sent in the troops. Comanche eventually defeated and forced onto a reservation in OK.
