Attitudes and Motives; Scientific Management (jan 1, 1882 – jan 1, 1920)

Description:

Scientific management is a theory of management posited by American foreman Frederick Winslow Taylor (hence it is also sometimes known as Taylorism) in the late 19th century. Taylor’s use of a stopwatch to figure out the most time-efficient ways to organize labor in factories. Progressives believed the same theory of maximizing efficiency via reorganization and management could be applied to government. They believed that scientific managers and experts would greatly reduce the corruption and inefficiency of government caused by the political bosses of the Gilded Age.
