Harlem Renaissance (jan 1, 1920 – jan 1, 1929)

Description:

During the 1920s, African Americans challenged old ideas on race through an increase in African American artists; black writers, musicians who rejected white standards of tase and developed their own music such as jazz and musicians like Louis Armstrong. This music eventually spread to white musicians. There heart of the African Americana art scene was Harlem and South Chicago.
