women and WWI (jan 1, 1917 – jan 1, 1919)
Description:
Fighting in WWI increased military production and government war related military services which required a greater workforce. With so many men off at war, the war employed more than 1 million women. Women took over formerly male jobs such as street car drivers and assembling airplane motors. But their salaries still were lower than men.
