Antislavery Movement: Abolitionism; William Lloyd Garrison, The Liberator; Liberty Party; Frederick Douglass, The North Star (jan 1, 1830 – jan 1, 1870)

Description:

In 1831, William Lloyd Garrison began publication of an abolitionist newspaper called The Liberator. The Liberator is an event that marks the beginning of the radical abolitionist movement and was the first anti-slavery newspaper ever created. Then in 1833, Garrison and other abolitionists founded the American Antislavery Society. In 1840, a group of northerners formed the Liberty Party, which is a minor political party in the U.S. James Birney Ran for president in 1840 and 1844. One of the campaign promises of the party was to bring about the end of slavery by political and legal means. Frederick Douglass was a former slave who would, with first-hand experience, write about the cruelty and exploitation of slavery. In 1847, he started the antislavery journal called The North Star. The North Star was significant because it displayed his clear political beliefs and reform methods.
