Tariff Issue (jun 1, 1890 – jul 1, 1899)

Description:

Terrace provided for over half of the government money in the 1890s. farmers hit capitalist at disagreement on whether tariffs rates good for in imports should be high or low. Congress raised Paris to support the union government during the civil war. Following the war, Democrats objected too high tariffs since the taxes raised the price is on the consumer goods. Due to the tariff, other nations put taxes in place on U.S. farm products, causing American farmers to lose money from overseas sales. This caused a surplus of corn and wheat to grow, essentially devaluing them for profit. The industry seemed to overpower rural America and the farmers point of view.
