Women In The Gilded Age (jan 1, 1890 – jan 1, 1910)
Description:
Industrialization and the rise of corporate capitalism created economic changes that led to changes in gender roles as well. For young women who attended college or beauty or secretarial schools and therefore had some disposable income of their own, new leisure opportunities opened up. Also, the growth of corporations and big business created more demand for clerical workers which offered women many new opportunities to enter the job market. Along with more women employed out of the home came an increased push for women's rights, especially the right to vote challenged absolute make control over the public sphere.
