Lincoln suspends Habeas Corpus (jan 1, 1862 – jan 1, 1862)

Description:

In the midst of the Civil War, President Lincoln suspended Habeas Corpus, the right to appear in court, for the first time in American history. President Lincoln was the first to assume this power in the US. Habeas Corpus would only be suspended once more successfully, during WW2, and its would fail once after the 9/11 Attacks.
