Rise of the Socialist Party (jan 1, 1897 – jan 1, 1920)
Description:
After the tensions due to the split in the Republican Party a third party arose named the Socialist Party. It was similar to the progressives however it became more radical. One of the founders was Eugene V debs and she became a candidate for the first 5 elections. Some of the socialist ideas included eight-hour workdays pensions for employees and even public ownership of utilities. Many like the progressive movement however socialism was a bit too radical for some.
