Description:

During the 1830s working conditions at the factory mills began to deteriorate because factory owners started cutting wages and lengthening work hours. Women launched strikes to protest these changes and organized themselves in their boarding houses and churches. These strikes contributed to the eventual creation of the women's movement as they highlighted women's economic needs.
