Tiananmen square massacre (apr 15, 1989 – jun 5, 1989)

Description:

The death of Hu Yaobang is what started the protests of the Tiananmen Square massacre. Hu wanted to introduce democratic reform to the government. The communists took him out because they did not want a democratic government. Students protested the death of Hu in Tiananmen Square. People were mad that people were struggling too much for money and the students were upset about how terrible the education system was. On May 13th some of the students started a hunger strike and more started around China, some parts of the government saw this as a threat and declared martial law. By the end of May more than a million protestors were in Tiananmen Square. on June 1 China sent troops to the square and started firing live rounds. Hundreds were killed and thousands were arrested. Gorbachev and other world leaders thought this was ok and condemned it. Congress voted that it was a human rights violation. Today China's government is still very corrupt, most people that live in China have no clue that it happened. If there is anything on the Chinese internet the government takes it down.
