Détente (jan 1, 1969 – jan 1, 1981)
Description:
A period of improved relations between the United States and the Soviet Union. They wanted more trade and fewer threats of nuclear warfare. This was a significantly cold point within the war. Richard Nixon visited Moscow to determine various aspects of further relations between the Soviets and the US. However, when Reagan was elected, Detente was brought to an end because of Reagan’s strong desire for military preparedness.Added to timeline:
